You are welcome to make use of our study hall for your archive research. Entrance is free of charge. During the opening hours, you can find your way to the monumental 'Minderbroederskerk' (Franciscan church) that houses our study hall. It is not necessary to reserve a workspace as the large study hall has a capacity for up to one hundred people. In the central nave of the church, there are 36 seats for consultation of original archives. In the upper area, there are five study rooms that offer more privacy for your research.
registration
On your first visit, our receptionist will ask you to fill in a visitor form. In order to identify yourself, you will need to bring a valid identification with you such as a passport or driver's licence. By signing the completed visitor form, you indicate that you agree to comply with our house rules. After registering, you will receive a personal visitor pass. On future visits, you will only need to show this pass in order to make use of our facilities. We also accept the National Archive Card and visitor passes of other Dutch archives. In this case we will make a note of your visitor number in our registration and you will just need to fill in and sign a visitor form at the reception.
information
Once you have entered the study hall, you will find an information desk on the left-hand side. Here you can ask any questions you might have. Our colleagues will gladly show you around the study hall. They can assist you with your research or in the operation of any of the equipment available to you for the reading or scanning of research material.
For genealogical research, we have many sources of information available for your use, such as micro-films and index cards and guides and manuals. You can help yourself to these in our study hall.
If you would prefer to have archive research carried out for you or would like to have a (large-scale) reproduction made, then this is possible for a fee. We would be glad to provide you with an estimation of the fee involved.
With your visitor pass you can also request original archives. Our colleagues will retrieve the requested archives for you from our depots. At the side of the study hall, there is reading equipment for working with microfilms and index cards. Microfiche scanners and a bookscanner are also available to be used. In the upper area to the right, there is an extensive collection of dictionaries, encyclopedias, reference works, hand guides and journals. Although we don't lend out any books or journals, this is an open collection that you may refer to for your research. Most of these books and journals can be found and borrowed from the library at the Centre Céramique or the SHCL. The use of a digital camera (albeit without a flash) is permitted in most cases.
